The dentist seats a small tray filled with a soft putty material over the gum ridge where the teeth are missing, and over the roof of the mouth (the palate) for an upper denture. This mould is sent to the dental laboratory, where your custom denture is built to match the shape of your mouth, ready for the try-in at the next sitting.

How is the bite measured and the denture tried in?
Before your final denture is made, the dentist checks that the bite and the look are right, so there are no surprises later. A soft pink wax rim is placed on the ridge and used to measure the correct bite height and the shape of your arch, so your jaws meet evenly and your face is well supported. A trial denture is then built in wax, with the planned tooth-coloured ceramic teeth set into it, and tried gently in your mouth.
